Just how easy it is to play, I hate the fame but love the game, cold as ice I remain. All the critics do is complain, so Fuck em' all, tell'em all eat shit, here we go again.

I had thought my "number 1 toy" was going to be "dellu 2" but no Golden Swan has proven himself incapable of lasting...sad i had high hopes for him...but the surprise the shock the amazement of the underdog in this rat race...yuvidev...yuvidev is proving to be QUITE the bit of entertainment...i feel energized from his vigor...it's amazing just what the "young fighting spirit" can do...it's infectious...hopefully he has the staying power to match his potential intensity...as he may yet be even MORE fun than he has been so far.
Without a doubt the idiot of the year for 2010 was dellu...yuvidev is well on his way to securing the title for '11
i do plan to make the most of his presence while he's still around...so no tray...no chainsaw...just a spoon

Lock and Load
'Tis the season of giving...and the boards have been no exception. I must have been good this year because the forums have added a few new people...and while they are equally deserve focus...for now I'd like to focus on just one...the golden goos--er bird...oh swan...whatever.
I've recently learned that GSA has been reading the boards for...almost a week...now at first I was rather impressed with that...but then I considered the source...and I'm now less than thrilled. Mainly it hinges on his definition of "almost" for me almost means more than 75% his percentage could quite possibly be far less...hell it could be just 2 days worth of reading...no not 2 full days...not even a combined amount equal to 24 hours...if his reading time is more than 4 hours worth I'd be shocked...i mean honestly...the forums are fun but it's not a book i'd read (no pictures) So anyway this GSA character wants to give the impression that he's now an expert on all things pertaining to the forum...and he's learned that people like to insult others for no apparent reason...his words not mine...i do however commend his use of the word "apparent". I briefly touched on this thought he had on the forums...and now like then...what really irritates me is that after all of his "reading" he still has no idea why some people have an issue with others that post stupid shit...personally i'm prejudice against "stupid" i have absolutely no tolerance for it...I have it listed as a "known allergy" in my medical records. In fact, if there isn't a bumper sticker that reads "stupid kills" consider that for your next million dollar idea. I hate stupid...but what's worse...is people who defend the stupid (although i could go off on a political rant...i will resist) GSA do you have the "hero's disease" ya know...the uncontrollable drive to put yourself between an idiot and a speeding train...the unexplainable urge to take a bullet for a moron? (family excluded even i'd take a flesh wound for a stupid cousin) Please don't misunderstand me...I'm enjoying your infestation on the boards...keep it up and you could actually make "the list" not many do...but you'd think with the amount of attempts so many make that making "the list" was a "good" thing...well "good" is relative...what's good for the goose is good for the gand--swan right? right.
I wonder with all of this "in depth reading" that GSA has managed to do...why is it he's choosing to fail at this game that is designed to be nearly impossible to do so? after a week of playing his stock is still at 7 cents and still going down? Now i'm not suggesting he play "my way" or "your way" or any other way but his own...however even a half wit knows that when you're fucking up...change your process. I'm sure i will revisit this topic or make a new one should GSA continue to play...but he's been here "almost a week" so i don't have much to work with...however i just noticed codio has asked a question of "why" muahahahahahhhaa

Many times I've said out loud "what the fuck?" with the utmost sincerity while reading various board topics. While I honestly believed I knew the true meaning of that question...this fucktard comes along and redefines stupid. There are many levels of stupid...the deepest most pure level being "incoherently stupid" meaning...he has no fucking idea that he is...sad really...if i didn't know any better i would swear this fucker is giving his best efforts at being so. Every explanation and answer I offer is completely and totally reversed to the opposite. He claims i was given something in addition...my continued and constant response is...i was returned what was mine.
Anyway, what I fail to understand is his incessant use of single letters as words mainly the letter "y" but that pales in comparison to his passionate misunderstanding of the entire situation for which he's so convinced he's correct about...while it's obvious he can read...it's equally obvious that he lacks the ability to fully understand what he's read. Should he be held responsible for his words even though he has no idea how to use them? I think so...I mean words are weapons...and so far the only reason he's "escaped the tray" is because he wouldn't know what hit him...literally he wouldn't grasp the concept of a "verbal rape" which would mean it's a nearly complete waste...but who knows he could just be playing dumb...i mean greeks are supposed to be smart...they invented arithmetic...but i guess not every greek is a genius...perhaps he's the exception.

I'd ask if you ever stop to think about the consequences of using that button but it's quite clear that you have zero skills in the power of deduction. Communication Information Clarification
As many of you---wait if you're reading this and you've read anything here before in the past couple of weeks then ALL of you know...and not just many of you...anyway as you know (hah i could have just said that couldn't i?) my current game has issues (a subscription of them so it seems) and while the status hasn't changed/improved/worsened I am finally certain that the developer knows what's going on...officially. Of which i feel it only fair that now having talked at length with him i need to point out that my opinion of him "not caring" about the issues in the game was not a fair assessment of the situation...and while i may have felt that way before...after having the conversation end on a "good note" i know that isn't the case. I've been assured that my game will be "looked into" and "resolved" in what way i have no idea...but i'm sure something will come of it. That's all for now...it seems there's some reading to do on the forum...which i'm sure will spawn a second post for the day.

On Strike
Well it's late...or early whatever it's fucking 1am
Let's get something out of the way...i'm no longer the moderator for the boards...i had a choice...i can be "me" or i can be a moderator...modding wasn't ever any fun...being a "finger shaker" is what the dev wants...oh wait for those that don't know what that is it's when you shake your finger pointing at someone while saying "no no no" what i mean is...it's pointless...besides i've said it before why the fuck do i want people to stop...if they do i've got nothing to say...and you know me i've always got something to say...and if i don't i blabber on until i think of something...like now...not actually i'm actually giddy with words. so i'll get to it.
TWO WEEKS! ok maybe it hasn't been two full weeks since i've had aircraft flying...but it "feels" like it has been...and it's something that i accept...and if it's fixed i haven't heard no calls no emails no messages nothing...ah well fuck it...even if it is fixed i wont play and i'm certainly not going to pay...fuck it fuck the game fuck the dev fuck the beta fuck cargo...but not the forum...that's the only thing that has always been glitch free...the only actual source of fun. So that's my point...my game is on strike but it's open season in the forum.
See i've read the thread from Rawling on the private contest...and frankly it seems like an awesome idea...one that i'd be onboard for if i gave shit...about the game. But i've run this race twice...the second time was better than the first...but a third...under the current conditions...with unexplainable glitching and incessant bitching? nah i'm good in "all ahead stop" mode. besides did you see my badge page? do i really want to do THAT again? no...and if i did restart i'd have to do it again...and i honestly don't want to.
This was going to go on the forum...but the game is down for maintenance (read as more shit breaking) so i'm putting it here...i can see this getting a lot more postings a lot more frequently...in the coming days/weeks i plan to discuss a few things about the game's workings...and that guide i'm working on...yeah it's going here not the boards.
oh and for those that posted about my game situation...thank you for the concern but it's just a fucking game...one i'm proving to be doing just fine without :P

In Summary: WHAT THE FUCK!
Yeah I've been quite quiet...I could use the legitimate excuse of work...and most anyone would understand but that isn't the case...well it is but I have always made time for this game and the people in it. I could talk about all the hard work that's being put in to the continuation of this game...and I could be right about it...but to say that would be a complete and total assumption. For the past 2 weeks I have no idea what the hell is going on...only that whatever is or isn't has completely and totally fucked my "hard work" up...what do i mean you ask? Oh well I'll be happy to share since I'm so done with this cloak and dagger bullshit of what can and can't be shared and what will and won't be fixed.
Just over 2 weeks ago in the name of "troubleshooting" I sold my parked aircraft all 2000 concordes and 220 Tu Concorde clones...along with the extra 188 a380s. Taking my fleet down to 503 aircraft 501 flying a380s one a318 and one 737bbj. All went as planned the staff were reduced by the correct amount I received the exact amount of money due...all was awesome and good in the world.
Phase 2 Fire all excess staff and sell all 501 a380s...as some of you know you can't fire all of your staff because of 1 of 2 reasons 1: your remaining staff will strike before you reach zero preventing you from doing so...or that bug that just says "fuck you no you can't fire anymore" ok it doesn't actually say that but you know what i'm talking about...and if you don't take my word for it.
Phase 3 rebuy aircraft...and this is where the proverbial shit hits the fan...please note before i started to repurchase I had 1.6trillion in the bank waiting to be spent...I buy 10 a380s and then i buy 10 more 10 more 10 more...and so on until i'd purchased 100...the money displayed was dropping by the correct amounts my staff was rising by the correct amounts...all was good right?...(this is where you nod and say "yep") forgetting what number i was on i click my fleet page...and there they are 100 a380s and 1 each of the previously listed. finding my number i return to buy 401 more...doing so I go to set my routes...what's this i need to buy a plane first?...i have 503 total aircraft each one with a fully trained crew that is paid by the day to sit there...i have aircraft...plenty of aircraft...
Alas the game refused to agree...so what do i do...wait and see if it changes after maintenance? sell them all off and try it again?...nah i'll wait it's a maint issue it will get worked out...i mean this was all to find a bug right? guess i found one right?...so maintenance comes and goes...i get to work...do some shit and say hey let's go set some routes and make some money....i log into the game...read my mail (thank you again to my understanding investors that had no issue with going from a 16k stock value to a 9k stock value) and then check my fleet...fleet "2" routes "0" wait what the hell? 2 i just bought 501 a380s yesterday...my account reflects that...so i said fuck it...i'll just go buy 100 more and take it up with the dev later...i buy 100 a380s check my fleet page...no new aircraft still just the same 2..."oh well this is just some perfect bullshit" i say to myself...actually it was outloud thankfully i'm always saying that so no one decided to ask what the issue was...i don't need to explain that i'd wasted billions on planes that don't exist.
So i put all of this in an email and send it off...keeping my personal opinion and view out of it (yeah i'm just that fucking capable) and i wait...and wait...and wait. nothing no fix no resolution...nothing changes...well the next day i catch dev online and bend his ear about it...then we get to talking about the other bugs and issues...and how basically whatever glitches are left will have to work themselves out...i said "hmmm while i can appreciate and understand that stance...i have a small issue regarding my game...in summary i'm not able to play" and that was all that was said.
So as of now I don't play AIRLINE manager I play just "manager" I have 1100ish employees most of which are on strike I still have 750ish billion in cash (mostly small bills 5's and 20's) that I and my employees roll around in...I have 2 aircraft that I drag race on weekends....so far the a318 is winning in the quarter mile. Testing for cargo is over...or at least for me it's been taken down off the beta server...so either that means it's complete or it's been pushed back again...just felt like i needed to vent and after all this is the fucking place i created to do so...only this time i'm not ripping on other players but the game itself...oh and if you are looking for me...i'm ruling the trivia room.

Dropping Like Flies
I've noticed on the forums a few people...no...i'll rephrase QUITE a few people have given their "resignation". I can't blame them...but no...I'm not one of them either. I haven't quit. I've been quite occupied with other aspects of the game that the "free time" I usually have reserved for "play time" has been redirected to more "useful" though "less fun" activities. I have noticed an "uptick" in new players but I don't know that I've seen an "uptick" in board activity...rest assured when cargo is released there will be much to discuss.
Oh and GIGA if you read this...flaming threads with repeated posts of "hearing aide anyone" isn't even close to being entertaining any moronic monkey can click a mouse button in the same place over and over again...you're proof of that.

Of all the people that have expressed their dislike for me...EK is the most recent...unless he's done it before...of which I would have to say it wasn't memorable...so this is either his first time...or the first time I noticed.
Labeling me a cheater...well that is certainly one way to garnish some attention. If that's your label of choice...I've got one for you...starts with an "L" and ends in an "R" and no it isn't "Loser" though from your actions and statements I'm sure that one could apply equally as well...no-no...the word I'm referencing is "Liar" My account with the game falls under more scrutiny than any other. So if I'm a cheater...you're a cheater too..and don't you dare say it isn't true...well you can...but you'd have to prove it...on second thought allegations seem to be enough proof according to you. What's the matter EK why don't you like me? You want to "throw dirt on my name" why because it's easy? Is it fun for you? good...it's fun for me too...it allows me to take your bullshit...spin it...and use it to my advantage. I seem to be your target...you've only got one shot...you took it...you missed...and now I get to add your name to the list...those who have come before you...you're all equally special...but you won't be the last to take "cheap shots" at my ass...are you just bored or stupid? Putting the Lazy on Blast
Who are you exactly? The nameless faceless useless free loading players? The ones who have less than 5 flights been playing less than 5 nights who actually believe they're entitled to the right not only expect complete and total disclosure but to demand it? who the fuck are you? where do you get off? you must be between the ages of 12 and 22...between the heights of 4'1 and 5'2 you may be pissed at me but i'm sure as shit having fun with you. I've noticed that from time to time it's more fun to type in rhyme. I just can't understand what would posses anyone to demand that a player take the time to post the times of when fuel hits 50 and also when it hits 200? We have people seeking approval from others for having bought "x" amount of a certain type of aircraft, we have people that still refuse to understand the point and purpose of a "sticky topic", we have people wishing themselves "happy birthday" under the disguise of a different name, hell we even have people creating second facebook accounts...to create a second AM account just so they can have me talk to them civil because they fucked up so bad the first time around...alex. I didn't come to the AM forums to make friends...but i think i made one...I didn't come to AM for attention...but i have it...I played AM the first time without the boards...when I restarted...I realized the boards were missing something...most of you know what it is i "brought to the table" what i refer to as my "chainsaw"...and at the height of the chaos...at the peak of the insanity...I of all people was approached to be the first moderator of the boards...though it didn't take effect at that time...I decided that for all of the fun I'd had...and shared with others...that I needed to do something of merit...ok wait...that's a lie...I was just fucking tired of all the fucking questions about what to do and when to do it...how much to buy...and when...and as much as i wanted to scream "buy whatever the fuck you want...as much as you want" I decided you know what...the game doesn't have a guide...and about that time some fucker wrote a stupid guide that only raised more questions...so i went to work...i drafted a guide that anyone could follow, if they didn't have a strategy...they could use mine...which was a culmination of crunching some numbers...and input from the first airline i know of to announce his retirement. So i published that to cull the flow of questions...and for the most part it worked...expect for the lazy fucks that refuse to read anything...or the ones that only know how to write a post...not read one...but I'm rambling so let's get back on track.
But between the birthday wishes and all the hugs and the kisses the boards have slowed...sure a flare up every now and then...makes for fun times...but I'm preparing constantly for when the player base surges again and people come out of their dormant slumbers to awaken to a new AM filled with cargo and 15 pages of aircraft...I'm revising my guide so these fucks have no excuse...no reason not to say "where how when what why" The day i can put down my tray and grab my chainsaw. Recently a player posted a thread titled "rate bfa" whether it was tongue in cheek or a sincere post doesn't matter...that shit's funny...and what makes it better...the responses...i must say Texas Int...has quite a lot to say...talking about me but not to me...i've not ever said one fucking word to your bitch ass and you're going to cry about "equality" and "consistency" I've been the same way since i stood a foot tall, without a care since my first fucking pubic hair, never ever giving a fuck about what people say about me, in person or online, everything's always "going fine", i don't remember giving a penny for your thoughts...but here's a dime...tell me everything you know...and when you're done i expect a nickel back. How bored is the world?
Just last night someone had nothing better to do than to pop into a chat room and start poppin' off...if you can't keep pace in a forum setting what the fuck makes you think you can keep up in real time? You and your five best friends don't make a "half-wit" but yet your masterplan was to take me on by yourself? Now don't misunderstand you and i are equal as man...but honestly you're out of your mind and out of your league if you think for one fucking second that you've got even half a chance at "besting" me. I don't know what you came in to prove but you're lacking evidence and your ability to deliver is sub-par at best. But I've got to give credit where credit is due...sadly all that I owe you is to acknowledge your delusions...so this is as soft as it gets, time to unload and go off this is a blistering assault...I've made my wounds now this is the salt. So since you want it bad enough here it comes. you came practically begging for it so who am I to deny such a request...you wont get my best but it will suffice...you've become part of the sacrifice. Just as I expected, you were set up...check mate motherfucker the game's over I won...but let's be honest, it doesn't take much for me to raise such a stink up...when motherfuckers hate my guts they don't have to say much just get me started and it's like smearing blood stains with a paint brush. The Next Vent
Yeah so it's been a few days since I've "vented" I was sitting here thinking of a "point" and...realized there still isn't one.
I was looking for a particular topic/subject/target and came up with nothing...there isn't any news to speak of...well at least none worth speaking of. So I said to myself (yes out loud) "fuck it" Some of the following may seem familiar...some of it may have been touched on before...but I'm just going to "deactivate my mental filter" and let go...you're welcome to stop reading at anytime as of now I've stopped thinking.
Where do these fucks come from? I mean seriously...the boards have been all but silent...yeah a few interesting posts that flare up and die out over the course of a day...though I guess one can't expect any stamina from a 13 year old...how can I possibly expect to make any wine if I have no grapes? But that wasn't where I was going was it...no in fact...I know it wasn't...my original direction was asking where these people come from that analyze a SIMPLE, ELEMENTARY, FACEBOOK GAME scouring the game pages looking for some error...some kind of mistake...so they can post to the masses that they "discovered" something? if it isn't the bitching about incorrect pictures of aircraft...or stats of an aircraft...passenger capacity...dry weight...wet weight (is that even a term...i mean dry i understand but what do you call it when it isn't dry?...moist?) these fuckers want to bitch about the lack of pax points...the lack of money...the growing amounts of time it takes to play this game...so the question to ask is:
How can I swing this, in the English language?
Do I do it in vein, or simply to entertain?
Am I being real or am I being fake?
Am I just a fraud or am I truly genuine?
Or am I caught up in all this drama

A look At Things To Come (VERY SOON)
Incident Report
Date: 1970-01-01 01:00:00
Investigated by: FAA
Engine stall
The incident occurred 1970-01-01 01:00:00 at flight phase 4 (descend and arrival)
During throttle retard 1 engine suffered a severe stall causing the 2nd stage turbine disk to break loose and destroy the fan-casing. The turbine disk also caused severe damage to the pylon.
At this point the engine caught fire, and the captain pulled the fire handle, as described in the emergency checklist. Thought the fire handle was pulled, the engine fire did not go out. The captain shot fire bottle no 1, causing the fire to go out.
As described in the emergency checklist, the captain aborted the landing to do a go-around. The landing occurred without any incidents.
FAA performed the investigation of the engine, and could determine that the 2nd stage turbine disk had suffered severe corrosion. Furthermore the investigation showed that the cowl doors was not properly closed, which gave the 2nd stage turbine disk, access to hit the pylon.
The maintenance organization was informed about this situation, and asked to document all maintenance performed on the engine.
Further investigation showed that the maintenance organization did meet the requirements regarding boroscope inspections on the turbine, and that the cowl doors were closed by authorized personal. The investigation also showed that the turbine disk break-off was so severe that the cowl doors were blasted open.
It is the decision of FAA that guilt could not be placed at any party.
The engine manufacturer was informed about the report, and immediately issued an AD note, requiring all owners of the ac type to perform detailed boroscope inspections of the engines.
The issues was so severe that the AD-Note was required before any further flight was commenced, causing all A/C to be grounded until the inspections was performed.
The airline having the incident was not fined due to this error, as the investigation showed that the incident was caused by poor maintenance program by the engine manufacturer.

Amount of A/C in fleet: 533

"Why am I not getting any pax points? I have 1 plane on 1 route sold 1 meal and have been playing for 5 fucking minutes and I haven't gotten any pax points? WHY WHY WHY?"

Me too...I can't fucking stand these idiots who believe the point of this game is to play for pax points...It is NOT an indication of your score in the game...you don't PLAY for pax points you PAY for them...that is the purpose...and that is the POINT...if you just happen to receive a few...well done...you're playing "better than average" and receiving a few at no cost is a "token" gift to reflect your dedication and focus to the particulars (morale reputation being a couple of those) This game is designed to offer no actual challenge...in fact the only challenge is deciding how to play...the rewards that are redeemed with pax points (read as "paid for") are to augment and enhance your gameplay...meaning they are superfluous...extra...unnecessary. So get it through your fucking head...you're not supposed to get hundreds of pax points a day...or even hundreds of pax points a week...hell you aren't even supposed to average hundreds a month.
However, we could suggest to the development team to make this a paid for game...charging every player that wants to play 5 dollars...only on the understanding that we would receive no less than 1000 pax points a day...actually now that i think about it...how many whiny bitches would that eliminate if we were to "pay to play"...hmmm on second thought, doing that would take all the fun out of it...maybe we should just suspend the pax point service...I mean once you get the biz jet...and i guess the extra routes what do you need em for? i've got over 8 thousand points and have yet to understand the long term purpose of them.

Changes
Change, basically it means "making something...different" and no that isn't the technical term but surely you get the gist...and if you don't stop reading because that's about as simple as it's going to get.
Complaints about the changes that are going on are piling up...and though they're all worded differently they all resonate with the same message "change it back" whatever it was that was changed these fuckin' people want "it" to go back to the way it was...yet whatever was changed was bitched about because it needed to be changed...the summary of this entire post...fuck you...shit changes and not always to your liking...if you'd like to see my additional thoughts...please continue.
these people...that complain about the changes...are usually the same ones that were complaining before the change occurred. Everybody needs something to bitch about...yeah I get that...hell it's the basis of this whole fucking blog...I've already talked about how "no one cares" and believe me we/they/you don't...but that doesn't stop me from talking about it...speaking of I had a flittering thought to do a podcast instead of a blog...until I can come up with extra time or an excuse to do so at work...I will have to save that for another time (I don't know that I could have an explanation for anyone at work about why I'm talking/yelling seemingly to myself...I mean I only do 2 conference calls a week)
Anyway I'm "off course" back to these lazy bastards that post their sob stories about "how it was better before you fucked it up" No one forces you to play this game...I know that once you play this game after the first few days you have developed this false sense of commitment...but you still have the option to NOT play...not that you would ever consider that...after all you're here to "beat the game" good fucking luck...it's impossible to beat this game as it was developed without an end...there is no "last level" there isn't a "boss fight" no princess to save or dragon to vanquish...the only end to this game is the one you set for yourself...or perhaps one that is imposed by real life circumstances (court order perhaps?) The entire game and it's concept is an experiment...a test...not for the players but for the developer...making changes in the pursuit of improvement...and by and large anyone who's played this game from the beginning could basically agree that from then to now...that's been accomplished...anyone remember the game before iFrame? Yeah thought so.
But to those that like to whine and complain about the start route button being moved...or that c checks don't appear in the maintenance screen if the aircraft is in flight...can't possibly understand why those two changes were important...The only ones that give "feedback" are the ones that have zero ability to know HOW to do what it is they want changed...a favorite of mine is a 3d map...yeah we all know what it is...but how could you integrate that for every player to map every route? oh oh oh...accurately...we've all seen the threads that say "the red dot is in the wrong spot" or the "that red dot isn't where i live" NO FUCKING SHIT if you go out your front door...get your mother to strap you in the car seat...have her drive past the airport...is it covered in red? IS IT? no...it isn't...but if it is take a picture with your prepaid. Oh and on a quasi-related subject...to the ones that like to post their trivia knowledge of inactive airports or those that no longer exist...are usually the same people that make the request for more obsolete aircraft...are DC-3s even around for any commercial air service? anywhere? I have no idea...my luck i pulled the one old aircraft model out of my ass that IS still in service...if all of this bitching and complaining is any indication of how sad your life is...you REALLY need to get out more...or at least have some perspective...it's a game...not a simulation (that's a hint for an upcoming topic)

The entire game and it's concept is an experiment...a test...not for the players but for the developer...making changes in the pursuit of improvement...and by and large anyone who's played this game from the beginning could basically agree that from then to now...that's been accomplished...anyone remember the game before iFrame? Yeah thought so.
But to those that like to whine and complain about the start route button being moved...or that c checks don't appear in the maintenance screen if the aircraft is in flight...can't possibly understand why those two changes were important...The only ones that give "feedback" are the ones that have zero ability to know HOW to do what it is they want changed...a favorite of mine is a 3d map...yeah we all know what it is...but how could you integrate that for every player to map every route? oh oh oh...accurately...we've all seen the threads that say "the red dot is in the wrong spot" or the "that red dot isn't where i live" NO FUCKING SHIT if you go out your front door...get your mother to strap you in the car seat...have her drive past the airport...is it covered in red? IS IT? no...it isn't...but if it is take a picture with your prepaid. Oh and on a quasi-related subject...to the ones that like to post their trivia knowledge of inactive airports or those that no longer exist...are usually the same people that make the request for more obsolete aircraft...are DC-3s even around for any commercial air service? anywhere? I have no idea...my luck i pulled the one old aircraft model out of my ass that IS still in service...if all of this bitching and complaining is any indication of how sad your life is...you REALLY need to get out more...or at least have some perspective...it's a game...not a simulation (that's a hint for an upcoming topic)
